(Virtual) Classroom Law Project Moves Civics from the Theoretical to the Practical: How Should We Live Together?
The Classroom Law Project (CLP) has been supporting K-12 teachers in Oregon for the last 40 years with methods and adaptable frameworks that are experiential and allow students to apply their knowledge. During this professional development series, CLP will give an overview of engaging civics education programs and highlight how skills build over grade levels from elementary to high school. The goal will be to hear from teachers on what skills they want students to gain, and think through how to get there to see student growth. The Classroom Law Project provides opportunities to students around the state to experience civics in a way that promotes: collaboration, awareness, research skills, public speaking skills, and confidence- ultimately, to move students from the theoretical to the practical foundations of democracy.

(Pendleton) Classroom Law Project Presents Civic Education Resources for K-12 Educators
Limited Capacity seats available

What is Civics Education? Join Classroom Law Project (CLP) to explore this question as well as engaging curriculum available to teachers and school districts to better implement civics at all grade levels. Participants will be introduced to CLP resources: from our research based, student-centered curriculum and methods, to our professional development opportunities for K-12 educators. Participants can expect to gain an understanding of CLP frameworks with built in standards and skills at each grade level; learn methods that help to create strong discourse and participation; and collaborate with colleagues on best ways to address goals. Classroom Law Project has a 40 year history helping teachers, schools, districts, and ESDs provide meaningful civics opportunities- we see this work as a way to give young people skills, a voice, and a role that goes beyond the classroom, so students can see connections between themselves and their community.

(Pendleton) Empowering Your Students and Powering Up Your Classroom
Limited Capacity seats available

This workshop will focus on empowering students through the formative assessment process- which research has shown can more than triple the speed of learning. An empowered learner possesses a growth mindset, meaning that he/she/they embrace challenge, puts forth effort, accepts feedback, and learns from mistakes. This learner can self-regulate, self-advocate, and is self-efficacious (believes in their ability to succeed). In the morning you will explore the Formative Assessment Process and participate in a simulation. The afternoon will provide workshop time to develop a lesson plan that implements all aspects of the Formative Assessment Process.
